It has been a delight hosting our first realistic pencil drawing course taught by our lovely guest tutor and talented artist Tamara Finlay here in our Blended Monkey Studios & Gardens.
Our small but most perfectly-formed group met up for three hours every Tuesday morning from 28 July to 11 August for 4 sessions of realistic pencil drawing.
Tam devised a wonderful beginner-friendly course that started everyone off learning the basics of layering, light and shade, how to apply and use colour effectively. Week 1's drawing project was to replicate a plum using coloured pencils; week 2 focussed on a dog's face in a single colour (which can be challenging but a great discipline to learn), and understanding how to draw hair; week 3 saw the beginnings of the final project - a beautiful hare - take shape, with the group understanding how to recreate fur in a realistic way using coloured pencils; and week 4 was a continuation of this A4-sized realistic hare, with some students completing their projects but others armed with all the information and skills they need to continue their hare at home in their own time.
Tam guided everyone through all the processes in a relaxed and cheerful manner.
We kept creative juices flowing with plenty of refreshments including lots of naughty bakes courtesy of Fanoggins Bakery.
If you missed out on this course, we're holding it again in September as an evening course - starting Friday 18 September and running every Friday over 4 weeks until 9 October. 5.45 pm - 9.00 pm here in our Blended Monkey Studios.

"This was a really enjoyable and informative course - Tam is/was attentive helpful and so talented! I am so glad I took the plunge and did this drawing course the only negative is - it was only 4 weeks - the improvement to drawing skills was amazing in this time but I will miss the course and the group - and of course the atmosphere and facility at Blended Monkey - we are just so lucky to have this wonderful venue - thank you Louise and Simon for the hard work and thought you put into it."
