An Evening of Momigami & Journal Decorating - hosted by the Ely Arts Festival - June 2026

We were asked by the Ely Arts Festival team to hold some workshops as part of their wonderful Ely Arts Festival which runs from 13 - 27 June.

So we invited Zakiya, our fabulous guest tutor bookbinder & junk journal artist, to teach a full-day BOOKBINDING, JOURNAL MAKING & JUNK JOURNALLING experience followed by an evening of MOMIGAMI & JOURNAL DECORATING.

The two workshops were a great success and we received so many lovely, positive comments.


Our 2-hour evening experience - Momigami & Journal Decorating - was attended by a creative, friendly group of students who immersed themselves into the fascinating art of momigami - the Japanese technique of "paper kneading" where you can turn paper into a fabric-like medium!


The first part of this experience focussed on making the momigami papers. This very mindful and relaxing technique slowly turns rigid paper into a soft "fabric".


The group then enjoyed using their unique materials to cover the journals which Zakiya had provided. They were also able to use other embellishments, stickers and ephemera!


Each of the students created their own individual covers, as you can see from the photos & video below.


Such a Creative & Relaxing Experience!
