Join Simon for a green woodturning taster workshop where you'll each take a log of green wood and learn how to use the axe, draw knife & pole lathe. Places are limited to 6 people, so book early to avoid disappointment.

You will learn how to
- Take a log of green wood and trim it with an axe on the axe block

- Draw it to shape using a shave horse & a draw knife

- Use the pole lathe to learn the process of spindle turning - creating beads and coves

Following on from this taster day, you can take your green woodturning to the next level in a 1-2-1 or pairs immersive full-day green woodturning pole lathe workshop with Simon in the Blended Monkey studio gardens.

The origins of the pole lathe are lost in antiquity, but it is known that Vikings used them as they have been found in archaeological finds in York. The ancient craft of pole lathe turning petered out in England after the Second World War.
