In today's stone carving workshop on Father's Day here in our covered outdoor Blended Monkey studio, our lovely group of students learnt how to carve a classical labyrinth into a piece of Portland stone.
Our guest tutor and talented stonemason, Mark, explained to the group the difference between labyrinths and mazes; each of the students then drew out their own labyrinths and Mark guided them through the various techniques for carving the stone.
We had a father and daughter duo attend the workshop too - which was lovely!
We kept the group fuelled with refreshments, home-baked brownies - courtesy of Fanoggins Bakery - and also a lovely lunch provided in the Blended Monkey kitchen.
Check out the photos & videos below - some wonderful labyrinths were created - and all in just one day!
If you missed out on this fabulous experience, we have more stone carving workshops scheduled this year.
Stone Carving - Geometric Shapes - 26 July 2026
Stone Carving - Relief Florals & Foliage - 30 August 2026
Stone Carving - Heart, Flower or Star - 13 September 2026
Happy Stone Carving Students

"We enjoyed our day in Louise and Simon's delightful back garden. They treated as like old friends and the lunch catered for everybody's tastes. Mark, our stone mason, was extremely knowledgeable and ensured he sent us home with a healthy respect for both ancient buildings and the craftsmen involved in their creation. Not to mention sore hands and a huge smile while going home. Thank you all for such an enjoyable day."
