We really enjoy holding our spoon carving & green woodworking experiences outside the classroom at the Farmland Museum & Denny Abbey in Waterbeach, with its beautiful backdrop of fields and wild flowers.
Yesterday's spoon carving experience was no exception, and we even saw and heard a pair of kites soaring above our heads. It was a hot day so we provided shade under our gazebo.
The session was very relaxing. Each student created their own large serving spoons or spatulas or even "spoontulas" - is that a thing?
The students were provided with their own spoon mules and sets of equipment to use for the day. Simon gave everyone an introduction & lesson in how to use the hook tool and spoke shave, and how to make the best cuts in the green cherry wood.
Simon & I were both on hand to ensure everyone was happy using the tools and that each student would be leaving the experience with a spoon/spatula to be proud of. We always provide aftercare instructions and sandpaper to take home, so students can further refine their work later on.
Everyone made something completely different and unique to them, despite starting off with the same sized blank of cherry wood.
If you missed the chance to book on today's workshop, we'll be holding more in the near future, so keep an eye on our FB page or website for up-to-date details.
We are holding our next green woodworking experience in our Blended Monkey studios in Upwell on:
Sunday 17 August - FULL DAY (green woodworking experience) - Blended Monkey Studios - BOOK HERE
Our green woodworking and spoon carving experiences can also be booked for private groups/parties. So do get in touch if you'd like to have this event for your own friend group or party.
