Enamelling Experience at our Blended Monkey Studios - June 2026

Our wonderful guest tutor and enamellist, Kate Janssens, taught another fabulous enamelling experience today!

Our small group of students made lots of beautiful brooches, pendants, necklaces and earrings.

Each student got to either design their own unique pieces or create something using the huge variety of templates provided.

The shapes were cut out from a sheet of copper using a vice and saw.

The pieces were then decorated using finely powdered glass - and other media such as frit, millefiori beads & glass strands - that was sifted over the copper.

The work was fired individually in tiny kilns to the correct temperature so as to melt and fuse. The effects are beautiful and sometimes unexpected; but under Kate's guidance everyone has produced beautiful pieces.

We provided refreshments throughout (tasty brownies & homemade shortbread) and also a lovely lunch, with another lovely selection of bakes from Fanoggins Bakery - including their tasty lemon drizzle cake, and "no sausage" rolls, fresh from the oven.

Kate is with us for two more enamelling experiences this year:

REVIEWS

"My friend and I attended an enamelling workshop and had the most wonderful day. Louise and Simon welcomed us warmly and provided us with drinks, treats and a very delicious lunch (highly recommend for these alone!). The setting is glorious, again worth a visit just for that. The workshops are small and personal to ensure you get what you need in respect of the craft as well as providing more than you expect.

The tutor, Kate, was warm, friendly knowledgeable and made the day so much fun. We thought we would come away with one pair of rather amateurish earrings (not being skilled ourselves) but actually Kate helped us produce many items including, key rings, broaches and pendants to be proud of and that we will actually wear or give as gifts.

This venue provides so many different crafts that there will be more than one you'll want to try, we are definitely going back for more. We discovered that Louise and Simon do a lot for charity and their local community, which added to our admiration of their set up and confirmed our opinion that they are good people. Cannot recommend this venue and the workshops highly enough, treat yourself you'll have the best time."
