Today's cyanotype textile art experience with the fabulously talented and creative Debs Munford as guest tutor was another great success. Cyanotype is such a fascinating and mysterious process, and Debs is always so generous with her time, expertise and materials - everyone's gone away with so many lovely paper and fabric cyanotype pieces that can be used in greetings cards, artworks ... and one of our students is going to continue the craft and create a beautiful cyanotype quilt!

We held this workshop in our covered outdoor studio - so everyone was in the shade on what was a fairly hot day; they all enjoyed the gentle breeze that wafted through the space; and had the colourful Blended Monkey gardens all around them.

The happy group of students were provided with plenty of refreshments throughout, starting with welcoming home-baked Fanoggins brownies (gluten-free to cater for one of our students), and shortbread.

Debs guided everyone through the steps, initially working on paper to gauge how to mix the chemicals and gain an understanding of the artform.

It was also great to see the students make use of our extensive Blended Monkey gardens, featuring mature trees, ponds, grasses and various beds of flowers and areas laid to wild plants. They were able to walk around at their leisure and choose leaves & grasses to use in their beautiful cyanotype creations.

After a lovely lunch, featuring bakery items made by Fanoggins Bakery, the group moved on to cyanotype printing on to fabrics, including silk - with astounding results.

Once dry, their printed fabrics were arranged to create a lovely panel; with each of the sections hand-stitched to a backing. Some students decided to take their pieces home with them to stitch using their sewing machines.

It was a pleasure to see such a beautiful, unique process.
