Today's cyanotype experience with the wonderfully talented Debs Munford as our guest tutor was another great success. Cyanotype is such a mysterious process, and Debs is always so generous with her time, expertise & materials. Each of our group has gone away with a huge amount of lovely paper and fabric cyanotype pieces that can be used in greetings cards and artworks ... and most of them have started stitching their cyanotype fabric pieces together to create a panel.

We held this workshop in our Crafts Studio with an outside covered awning for the water/chemical trays. So everyone had plenty of space and shelter on what was a pretty drizzly and grey day.

Thankfully, Debs brought light boxes with her, so the lack of sun wasn't an issue!

We provided our creative group with plenty of refreshments throughout, starting with welcoming home-baked Fanoggins brownies and coconut cookies.

Debs guided everyone through the steps, initially working on paper to gauge how to mix the chemicals and gain an understanding of the artform.

It was also wonderful to see the students make use of our extensive Blended Monkey gardens, featuring mature trees, ponds, grasses and various beds of flowers and areas laid to wild plants. During the dry spells, the group were able to walk around at their leisure and choose leaves & grasses to use in their beautiful cyanotype creations.

Simba kept a close eye on the proceedings - probably a little unsure about the use of litter trays for the chemical mix ;-)

After a lovely lunch, featuring tasty treats from the Fanoggins Bakery, the group moved on to cyanotype printing on to fabrics, including silk - with the usual magical results.

Once dry, their printed fabrics were arranged to create beautiful panels; with each of the sections hand-stitched to a backing.

It was a pleasure to witness such a beautiful, unique process.

We have some NEW cyanotype experiences coming up next year - so watch this space!
