Wet Felting - Purse - Experience at our Blended Monkey Studios - July 2026
This morning's wet felting textile art experience with the wonderfully talented felting artist Dannielle Green as guest tutor was a great success. The heritage craft of wet felting (the oldest textile technique, originating in Central Asia among nomadic cultures during the Neolithic and Bronze Age) is such a fascinating process.
Danielle guided our lovely small group of ladies through all the stages, starting with choosing their beautiful merino wool colours and all the way through to completing their gorgeously unique purses/bags.
We held this experience in our Crafts Studio located in the pretty cottage gardens of our Blended Monkey Studios. It was another hot day, so the air-conditioned studio was a blessing.
In true Blended Monkey style, the group of students were provided with plenty of refreshments throughout (catering for all dietary requirements) - including home-baked Fanoggins shortbread and gluten-free treats.
It was a pleasure to witness such an interesting, unique process; magical to see how the fibres knit together with water. The fulling technique of rolling to shape - and as you roll the fibres reduce and knit together; creating a more robust fabric. The students were able to add embellishments in the form of silks and sari fibres - some with a metallic sheen.
We'll be adding the next wet felting workshop dates to our website soon.
