Our latest group ceramics workshop was held in October 2023 at the fabulous Farmland Museum & Denny Abbey, a venue we've used many times before, as the bright & spacious education centre there is perfect for our group workshops.
We had a wonderful group of students who fully embraced their creative sides and designed & glazed some beautiful pieces.Â
They each had a large trivet tile and also four coaster-sized tiles all ready for them to carve and etch with their chosen designs. The afternoon was spent glazing (colouring) their work ready for me to fire once everything has dried fully.
The shots here show the glazed work before it has been fired and provided with a coat of transparent glossy glaze.Â
We'll pop photos up of the results once they emerge from the kiln.
Thank you to the Farmland Museum & Denny Abbey for their ongoing hospitality and lovely venue, and thank you to the students who were all so warm and friendly.

"Perfect gift for creative people: a fun workshop that took me back to fond school memories working with clay and painting.
It was nice to find out about new techniques and to be in a class with some very talented people.
The atmosphere was relaxed, supportive and encouraging.Â
I enjoyed the background music and chocolate biscuits were top class!"

"The venue at Denny Abbey was lovely, the room we worked in was well laid out (in advance by Louise and Simon), full of light, set in the grounds and gardens of the Abbey.Â
Just to sit in front of the clay squares was quite inspirational, as was Louise when describing the different techniques, the tools and how to use them. The 'overhead' projector was very useful for the class to see her working in close detail.
The morning was spent creating our designs, with tea and coffee (managed admirably by Simon), gentle music and the quiet of 'artistic concentration', broken occasionally with shared conversation.Â
Lunch was either in the well stocked, homemade food of the cafe, or with plenty of seating (some under cover), for those who had brought their own. There was even time for a quick look round the amazing Museum and Abbey.
The afternoon was exploring the world of colour for our tiles, again with lots of help about mixing and layering the glazes.
It was lovely, as a group, to look around at other peoples work, so different and personal.Â
Really looking forward to seeing the end result, 'ours', whatever the outcome.
Thank you for a really interesting, creative day. Away from all the other distractions of home, work etc, to have the time to focus on our minds and hands, the raw materials around us and project what is important on the day.
PS. I would recommend a little preparation in advance, to plan what is important to you to create and keep, but be flexible to the ideas learnt.
