We had a delightful bunch of students attend our Creative with Clay Coiling & Botanicals workshop at the Farmland Museum.
Students learnt the technique of coiling in the morning - a really therapeutic and mindful way to use clay - and they all created some fantastic pieces.
After lunch, they learnt how to make two large vases using using pressed-in botanical elements, interesting wooden stamps and applying "sprigs" to create their own unique pieces.

All the pieces made it back safely to our Blended Monkey studios in Upwell - despite the lovely roads! - where they will now dry slowly and completely before undergoing the first "biscuit" firing. I'll then glaze everyone's work in the colours they have chosen and then all the pieces will be fired in a high-fired glaze firing (1250°C).

"I attended the ceramics workshop at Denny Abbey. I'd never done any clay work in coiling and vase making before. Louise made it all very easy with her step-by-step instruction & demonstration. All materials and equipment were provided and explained how to use.
I managed to produce 2 little coil pots and 2 botanical vases and I'm looking forward to picking them up once they've been fired & colours of my choice added by Louise.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day which I can recommend."

"Thank you for the excellent workshop. Not having done anything with clay since leaving school I think we were both a bit unsure as to how the workshop would go, but the instructions were very clear and we both felt very supported, but above all it was just such great fun! Many thanks."
