Pop-up Paper Engineering Experience at our Blended Monkey Studios - May 2026

Today's full-day pop-up paper engineering experience taught by our very talented guest tutor, Sue Welfare, artist and printmaker, was a tremendous success.


Once again, Sue brought with her plenty of pop-up books for inspiration, ephemera and oodles of positivity and enthusiasm; providing a wonderful foundation for the students to learn the exciting art of pop-up paper engineering.


The morning focussed on the group learning the various mechanics and techniques used for pop-up paper elements and engineering.


After lunch, featuring plenty of tasty bakes from Fanoggins Bakery, the group went on to put the techniques they'd learnt earlier into practice by creating their own wonderful pop-up books.


Armed with the techniques for making their own pop-up paper elements, everyone can continue to work on their books at their leisure.

As is customary here at Blended Monkey, in addition to lunch we kept the group fuelled with plenty of teas, coffees and home-baked brownies & shortbread. I took lots of photos and videos throughout the day too - which you can see below.


Sue is returning to us for more experiences this year - pop-up paper engineering, linocut printing, block printing on paper and fabric, and also Christmas cracker making:
