Today's leatherwork - carving & tooling - trays & coasters - experience taught by the talented Tony from Fatbob Crafts and accompanied by is lovely wife, Soraya, was another great success!
Everyone really embraced the craft, and each student has made a beautiful coaster and valet tray with unique carving and tooling decorations.
The morning started with Tony teaching everyone how to use the tools and understand how to cut leather, and create shaded areas and texture. The students each chose a design and traced them on to their coasters, producing lovely works of leather art.
After lunch in our Blended Monkey kitchen, featuring bakery items made by Fanoggins Bakery and catering to everyone's dietary requirements, the group went on to design their valet trays using the techniques they'd learnt in the morning.
I kept popping in to take photos, and again I'm amazed at how much has been achieved. Watching the students using their bevelling tools and mallets to create texture in the leather was quite therapeutic too. It's another one of those workshops that I really want to attend myself in the future.

“We had a lovely day today doing a leatherworking workshop at Blended Monkey, expertly lead by Tony Fulton. We learned and practiced some techniques, then made a coaster and an oddments tray, including staining and sealing them to look great and last well. Tony was a great teacher - skilled, well organised, and very helpful.Louise and Simon were excellent hosts. The lunch was lovely, and Louise didn't blink and did a great job accommodating our need for a gluten-free (Coeliac) vegetarian.Thank you all.“
