Yesterday's full-day leaded glass panel experience, taught by the wonderfully talented Katherine from Number 8 Glass, saw our students get creative with glass and learn traditional, heritage techniques for cutting the glass and lead and using specialist nails to position the glass pieces in place.
Katherine invited each student to create their own design for their garden panel; they chose their colours and textures of glass, and then Katherine instructed them in how to position and nail their work in place on the specialist boards provided.
The participants were then taught how to work with the profiled lead lengths and sandwich the glass between the sections. Everything was firmly nailed in place. The joints were fluxed and then each student was shown how to solder their own joins to create their unique and beautiful garden panels.
We kept the group's creativity going by fuelling them with teas, coffees & plenty of tasty bakes courtesy of Fanoggins Bakery, and also a lovely lunch.
The photos here provide a great insight into this wonderful experience. Katherine will be returning to our studios next year to provide some half-day mirror-making workshops and another lovely full-day garden panel. So watch this space :-).
