Journal Making & Junk Journalling Experience at the Blended Monkey Studios - October 2026
Yesterday's journal making & junk journalling experience taught by our guest tutor Zakiya - bookbinder & junk journal artist from Fanoggins - was another success. Due to illness, we had a very small group which meant that everyone had plenty of 1-2-1 tuition.
Zakiya provided lots of stamps, ephemera, washi tapes, beautiful papers, stickers ... The morning started with each of the students selecting various papers and ephemera to make covers for their journals.
Each student chose their papers and embellishments and decorated their covers in their own unique way. One student chose a Japanese theme, paying homage to a trip she'd been on there. Another chose to use received greetings cards and memorabilia from friends.
After lunch, which consisted of some fabulous baked treats courtesy of Fanoggins Bakery, the group went on to make pockets, envelopes, bands ... and enjoyed the wealth of mixed media made available to them to start filling their journals!
The experience was incredibly relaxed and mindful. It's such a therapeutic craft!
If you missed out on this wonderfully creative and calming experience, Zakiya is teaching a number of papercraft and bookbinding workshops throughout 2027 (just click on the workshop to discover more info):
