It was lovely to return to the Farmland Museum & Denny Abbey in Waterbeach yesterday with our Green Woodworking & Pole Lathe workshop that we held outside against the backdrop of the beautiful Fenland countryside.

We had a great group of students who got to grips with using axes to cut pieces of barked wood to a rough shape, then they sat at the shave horses and used draw knives to further refine their shapes, and then took their roughly cylindrical pieces to the pole lathe to "turn" the wood into creations!

Simon was on hand to give lots of advice and help out - our small-group experiences ensure plenty of 1-2-1 tuition.

Everyone embraced the therapeutic nature of the rhythmic movements of the pole lathe, and the joy of watching the lovely curly wood shavings made with the draw knife (I could sit at the shave horse and do that all day!)

"So much fun and learnt a lot. Always a blast with these guys and I love learning new skills. I booked the woodwork day for my husband's birthday and he loved it too.

Thank you 😊"
