Silk Painting Workshop | Farmland Museum | Sunday 2 August 2026
Sunday 2 August 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
£80 including tea, coffee & light refreshments throughout, materials, use of equipment on the day & tutoring and includes free entry to the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey.
Suitable for children 14+ accompanied by an adult.
Learn how to decorate a large 30 cm x 30 cm silk suncatcher with either a mandala design (templates provided) or a design of your choice, and also a silk glasses case.
You can choose to silk paint/decorate either:
- 2 suncatchers
- 2 glasses cases
or
- 1 of each
In this relaxing and therapeutic silk painting session, you'll discover how to take your design (there will be a selection of designs to use if you don't want to come up with your own), trace your design on the silk using a fade pen, and apply metallic gutta contouring medium to provide outlines.
Once the gutta has dried (after lunch) you'll learn how to mix various colours to create your very own palette and how to apply the paint to the silk.
We'll also touch on the use of salt techniques to add some interesting effects.
Once painted, we'll heat-fix your work so it's ready for you to take home and use. Your suncatchers can be provided with a fabric loop so you can suspend them wherever you wish.
The whole procedure will be explained from start to finish by Louise and also with the aid of real-time footage on a large screen showing each step up close.
The workshop is taking place at the lovely Farmland Museum & Denny Abbey.
