"I am Mahemuda Arsalani - also known as Muni. I am a self-taught mosaic artist based in Peterborough, UK. I have been making mosaics for over 23 years and work mainly with glass and ceramic tiles, millefiore, beads and pebbles, to create vibrant and colourful indoor and outdoor mosaics.

I am a long-standing member of the Peterborough Artists Open Studios, and exhibit my work regularly.

I really enjoy sharing my skills and knowledge of mosaics with others and teach a range of beginner/intermediate mosaic workshops, throughout the year.

In recent years, I have worked with a range of local communities, to design and create large collaborative public mosaic pieces, which are installed in and around Peterborough.

My passion for mosaic started in 2002, when I was first introduced to this art form by an artist friend.

I have since researched and practised different techniques and styles over the year. I continue to learn and develop my skills through exploration.

Much of my inspiration comes from the infinite form, patterns & colours of nature and also the beauty and symmetry of Islamic geometry and Arabic calligraphy - influences of my Arab/Indian heritage.

Many of my designs are created in bright, contrasting colours, and incorporate intricate detail using glass gems and beads. Although my designs are quite diverse, my favourite subjects are magical trees, colourful landscapes and spiralling swirls…..!"
