FLOWER IN A POT CLAY SCULPTURE WORKSHOP

Saturday 6 March 10.00 - 1.00 pm

£70 including refreshments, all materials, use of equipment on the day, coloured slips, glazing, two firings of your piece, and full tuition.

This creative three-hour small-group workshop with our guest sculptor, Aimee, is suitable for all skill levels, including complete beginners.

As this workshop takes place over Mother's Day weekend, it's the perfect project whether you'd like to gift the experience to a loved one, create a handmade flower sculpture to give as a present, or simply enjoy a creative morning together, or a few peaceful hours to yourself.

To give you more time to focus on sculpting your floral centrepiece, Aimee will prepare a stoneware pinch pot and internal supporting structure for each participant ahead of the session. You’ll begin by decorating your pot using a variety of coloured slips, exploring layering, mark‑making, texture tools, and sgraffito (scraping back the slip) to reveal contrasting patterns and details.

Once your pot is decorated, you’ll move on to creating your flower blossom, exploring a range of petal‑making techniques — from hand‑modelling and sculpting to using cutters and texturing pads — to form the blossom style of your choice, similar to either of the two examples shown in the photographs. Petals can be decorated with coloured slips during the session, or left bare if you’d prefer to paint them at home after firing.

You’ll assemble your petals using different construction approaches depending on your chosen flower type, creating a unique, expressive blossom with plenty of opportunity for personal flair. Each finished sculpture will measure approximately 12 cm tall.

Stoneware clay makes these sculptures durable and long-lasting, perfect as a decorative piece for your home or a thoughtful handmade gift.

After the initial firing, Louise from the Blended Monkey Studios will glaze your sculpture. You can choose to keep your entire piece matt or opt for a clear gloss glaze on the pot, the flower, or both - giving you full control over the final finish. Louise will contact you when the sculpture is ready for collection.

"Creativity has always been part of what makes me me, and I don’t remember a time without it. My background spans fine art, mixed media and textiles, before I went on to gain a First Class BA (Hons) Degree in Design Crafts, specialising in sculptural ceramics — a journey that’s given me a diverse creative perspective.

I’ve developed a well‑practised, technical ceramic skill set that allows me to make almost anything; I love a challenge and I’m always creating something new. With a natural affinity for clay — my brain thinks in 3D — I’m particularly inspired by botanical forms and textures, animals (with a special interest in cats!) and playful character design. I love sharing my skills and supporting others as they bring their creative ideas to life. Clay is the ideal material for exploring possibilities: wonderfully malleable yet structurally strong, with limitless potential. Every piece is unique, taking on its own personality and carrying the unmistakable mark of its maker. Using traditional handbuilding techniques with a modern twist, I teach how to create structurally sound ceramic forms with care and intention. I believe technique supports creativity, and each piece deserves the time, attention and love needed to give it the best possible chance of surviving the kiln gods.

Throughout my workshops, I demonstrate and explain the key concepts behind a successful build, while encouraging playful experimentation and personal expression.

My sculptural work and ceramic workshops sit under my @aimeesculpts umbrella. You may also recognise me from @nachoandtikisstudio, which represents the mixed‑media and illustrative side of my creative practice.

I look forward to welcoming you into the studio and supporting you on your creative project."
