1-person Two-day Comprehensive Woodturning Experience
Learn woodturning in the peaceful setting of Simon's woodturning workshop located in the cottage gardens of our home on the Cambridgeshire / Norfolk border.
The 2-day experience is mainly aimed at those wanting a more comprehensive foundation in woodturning, giving you everything you need to start the craft in earnest. Whether you're a complete novice or are relatively new to the craft we can tailor these two days to your personal requirements.
As part of the experience includes learning how to sharpen the gouges used in woodturning, we ask that you bring along your own gouges if you have them. Not to worry if you don't.
The two days will be fun and informative!
The experience can also be tailored to meet the requirements of those who are relatively new to woodturning and wish to gain some more insight having purchased tools and equipment.
Day 1
Simon will introduce you to the lathe, the tools, and the equipment that is used with it. You will learn how to mount a piece of wood on the lathe and cut and shape it using gouges and other woodturning tools. You will also learn how to finish the wood afterwards.
The morning will be spent getting to grips with spindle turning; creating something like a honey dibber, ornament or mushroom.
After lunch, which we provide (catering to any dietary requirements or allergies), we'll spend the afternoon learning how to make a beautiful bowl!
Day 2
We'll spend the morning reviewing the techniques learnt the day before and then turn our attention to how we sharpen our tools. This is an essential part of woodturning, as we can only create nice cuts if our tools are sharp. Simon will cover the different methods and equipment that can be used to sharpen.
He will also cover maintenance, both of the lathe and other equipment.
After lunch, we'll continue the day with instruction in either:
- box turning
- multi-axis turning or
- hollow form turning
This two-day experience includes:
- Materials, use of all the tools and personal protection equipment (eye protection/lung protection).
- Smocks, but you may wish to bring your own. If you already have some woodturning tools, you can bring these along too if you wish.
- Refreshments (tea/coffee/soft drinks and biscuits).
- Lunch on both days (catering to all dietary requirements).
- One-to-one tuition/private tuition ensuring you get the maximum benefit from the experience with no distractions.
- All work can be taken home.
- Certificate of completion.
- Follow-up advice.
If you are purchasing this 1-person 2-day comprehensive woodturning experience for yourself, having received your order we'll follow up with an email to establish your requirements and sort out suitable dates.
If purchasing as a gift for someone, we'll email you as above and then obtain the details of the lucky recipient. We can then email or post out a personalised certificate for you to present to them. Once they've received their certificate, they can then contact us at their leisure to arrange suitable dates.
The two-day experience can also be enjoyed by two people. Contact us for details and prices.
We also offer accommodation in the form of our luxury Crafter's Retreat, set in its own 1/4-acre of private gardens and boasting an inviting hot tub on the veranda.
