Talk, Woodturning Demonstration & "Have A Go" Session
Last night was chilly, but we received a lovely warm welcome from the ladies at the Watlington Women's Institute. The group invited us to come and give a talk about what we do here at Blended Monkey, and to provide a woodturning demonstration and "have a go" session.
We gave a brief talk about what we do, including promoting our Artisan Fayres (our charity fundraiser for Norfolk & Waveney Mind), our creative therapy work, our 1-2-1 and pairs workshops & all our lovely guest tutor small-group experiences, where we invite guest tutors here to our Blended Monkey Studios in Upwell to come and teach their craft.
Simon then demonstrated turning a honey spoon on the electric lathe. He explained all the different gouges and tools he was using, and then presented the honey spoon to the group so they could use it as a raffle prize.
After the demo, we invited members of the group to come up and have a go at woodturning themselves - and one lady rose to the challenge and had a "turn"!
We'd like to thank the Watlington WI group for their lovely warm welcome.
If you live in the Watlington area and would like to join this friendly group, they meet on the second Tuesday of every month in Watlington Village Hall at 7.00 pm. You can contact them at the email address: watlingtonwi@gmail.com or contact Marion Dyson on 07827 623883.
