Full-Day Spoon Carving Experience at the Haddenham Arts Centre - July 2026

Yesterday's full-day spoon carving experience at the Haddenham Arts Centre was great fun and we were really lucky with the weather too! Simon taught each of our students how to create their own large serving spoons or spatulas or even "spoontulas" using the spoke shave, hook tool and small draw knife, and seated on a spoon mule.

After welcome teas, coffees & biscuits in the centre's café, we took the group out into the gardens where we held our spoon carving workshop under the shade of two gazebos. Each participant was given their own spoon mule and set of equipment to use for the day. Simon gave everyone an introduction & lesson in how to use the specialist tools, and how to make the best cuts in the green wood (ash, beech and pear).

Simon & I were both on hand throughout the today to ensure everyone was happy using the tools and that each student would be leaving the experience with a spoon/spatula to be proud of. We always provide aftercare instructions and sandpaper to take home, so students can further refine their work later on.

Each student made something completely different and unique, despite starting off with the same sized blank of green wood.
