Today's green woodworking experience taught by Simon here at Blended Monkey was immense fun, with each student embracing the craft of green woodworking and learning techniques for using an axe and axe block, a draw knife and shave horse (I particularly like using the draw knife & shave horse, it's so therapeutic to sit there and peel away curly shavings of wood!), and the pole lathe and gouges to create something from a log of green wood without the use of power tools.
It was lovely to hear all the positive comments about our Blended Monkey Studios and gardens. Despite the ominous weather forecast, the day was dry throughout with lots of sunny spells.
Fuelled with teas, coffees and tasty brownies, the students embarked on their green woodworking day after an introduction, health & safety briefing & Simon demonstrating each of the stations.
Lunch included our buffet-style offering with lots of lovely treats baked by Fanoggins Bakery, including their tasty cheese scones, scrummy vegan "sausage" rolls and fresh-from-the-oven-warm chocolate cookies!
We're pleased everyone enjoyed their beginner's green woodworking experience.

“This was a surprise gift for me, and what a gift it turned out to be! Simon and Louise were excellent hosts, were very attentive and knowledgeable about their craft. I have to say, I had always wanted to do green woodworking, and am really glad that I did it. Simon has an easy flowing manner in his teaching practice, and was always on hand to point out errors and give guidance. Lunch was a very civilised and homely experience too! All seated around a dining table where we were fed and watered with very nice food (the “sausage” rolls are exceptional!). I came away from the day with a useful item, a bag full of knowledge, contentment with the people I’d met, and a desire to go back! Thank you both for a great experience!”

“Easy, relaxed hospitality in a serene garden setting. No pressure and plenty of time to push the world away for a day. My target was to come away having learnt something new; something I could perhaps continue from my own garden. I achieved that and more. I'm even going back for a second bite. Well, the lunch was that good! Simon and Louise - thanks!”
