Full-Day Fused Glass Experience - Creating a Beautiful Lantern - in our Blended Monkey Studios & Gardens - October 2026
Updated: 15 hours ago
Today's full-day fused glass experience taught by our talented guest tutor, fused glass artist June Massey, was a great success. Each student decorated four panels with their own wonderful unique designs and colour schemes - we saw everything from pumpkins to delphiniums!
Once fired, these panels will adorn the four sides of a metal lantern.
The students learnt how to cut glass and "nibble" it to get the right shapes. They were able to choose from a myriad of fabulous glasses, frits, millefiori beads and ephemera which was then arranged on their glass panels to depict their desired designs.
Our skilled fused glass tutor, June, expertly guided the group through all the stages, and as usual I popped in now and then to take photos and see how everyone was getting on.
As anyone who's attended our Blended Monkey Studios in the past will know, we always make sure creativity is fuelled with plenty of refreshments, and today we enjoyed Fanoggins Bakery's new signature chocolate orange shortbread and gluten-free chocolate brownies.
Not forgetting the lovely lunch we provided featuring more of Fanoggins Bakery's bakes and plenty of gluten-free goodies for our gluten-intolerant tutor.
June has now taken the work home with her to fire in her specialist fused glass kiln. The creations will then be brought back to our studios, and students will be able to collect them by arrangement.
The photos and video here provide a great insight into today's experience, and if you missed out on this workshop, we'll be holding it again later in 2027 (going up on the website soon), and we have the following fused glass workshops to look forward to in spring:
Saturday 20 February - Two Necklaces & Two Wish Sticks with Hangers - half-day workshop
Saturday 3 April - Dragonfly & Hanging Piece - half-day workshop
Saturday 22 May - Placemat & 6 Coasters - full-day workshop including lunch

"My daughter and I attended the Fused Glass Workshop yesterday run by June Massey.
It was a 50th Birthday gift for our daughter and a lovely experience for both of us to share.
It was a relaxing and creative session ....in fact a bit "like a child being let loose in a sweet shop"!! So many glorious pieces of glass materials to choose from to create the Glass panels for our hurricane lamps.
June is an encouraging and animated tutor. We had a wonderful time thank you.
Many thanks for your hospitality Louise and Simon; the drinks, nibbles and the delicious lunch were all much appreciated. Highly recommended. It is always a joy to do Workshops at Blended Monkey. Thank you so much."
